HE IS AT REST.
Sarah Snook
Sarah was the second of nine children born to William (a bricklayer) and Ann (nee Pickett) who lived in Furzey Lodge. She was baptised on 24th January 1819 at Beaulieu church and had 8 siblings, one of whom, William Snook, also has a headstone at the chapel.
She married Benjamin Cutler on 6th January 1836 and they had a son, George in 1837.
Benjamin was convicted for killing deer in 1837 and was transported to Tasmania in January 1838 for 7 years. He stayed there after he had served his sentence until his death in 1864; he is buried in Port Arthur, Tasmania.
Edward James Bound
Edward was born to Thomas and Lucy (nee Prince) in 1826 and was baptised at Beaulieu church on 21st September 1826. He had three sisters, Ann, Jane and Martha and the family lived close to the property now called the Nook, to the south of Pages Lane.
Sarah married Edward, an agricultural labourer, on 8th July 1849 and the 1851 census shows Edward, Sarah and 14 year old George living together in Beaulieu Rails.
By 1861 her 67 year old father William was living with them, he died 3 years later.
On 21st January 1865 Edward was watching game with George Kitcher in a wood near Newlands farm. They encountered 5 poachers and George Kitcher was shot while trying to apprehend them.
The 1871 and 1881 censuses show them living in Furzey Lodge, by1891 they had move to 'Village Street', East Boldre.
Following Sarah's death Edward moved back to Furzey Lodge where the 1901 census shows him, now aged 75 and retired, living alone.
Edward died on 28th March 1909 and left £101 to James Thomas Biddlecombe, the farmer at Hazel Copse Farm and the son of Benjamin and Ann Biddlecombe who are commemorated on the box tomb.
