Charles Croucher was born in 1830 to Henry (an agricultural labourer) and Ann (nee Fryer), the eldest of their three sons. He was baptised on the 21st November 1830 at Boldre church.
His baptismal record and the 1841 census shows his family lived in Dilton.
In 1851 Charles was working at Slade Farm as a farm servant for William and Elizabeth Whittren who farmed 120 acres there.
The 1861 and 1871 censuses list Charles boarding with John and Charlotte Wort at Harford Cottage in Beaulieu and working as an agricultural labourer.
He was buried at the Baptist chapel by the Rev John Bartlett Burt on 27th September 1872.
