Sunday 14th May - 9:30 - 17:00

East Boldre Baptist Chapel

Chapel Lane, East Boldre,

SO42 7WF

Thanks to the amazing response we now have all the help we need.

We have to limit the number of people onsite for health and safety reasons.

There will be other opportunities to get involved as the project progresses.

No parking at the chapel

Please use the Village Hall

Our aim is to draw on the community spirit of old that saw local residents come together to build a house for a family between dawn and dusk in one day.

They would conclude by lighting a fire in the hearth of the new home.

We'll be lighting the barbeque for all the volunteers and hope you'll stay to celebrate what we have achieved together.

Think DIY SOS without the TV cameras.

No highly skilled jobs are planned but ideally you'll have home DIY skills.

  • Removing matchboard panelling, removing nails  and sanding (to be reused),

  • Disconnecting sink, toilet, removing tiles.

  • Feeling strong - taking up carpets (some will be kept for reuse), removing the old heaters, taking down stud partition, removing doors.

  • If wood work is your thing, we need to build a wooden box around Benjamin Biddlecombe's tomb to protect it during demolition of the hall

  • Taking up the platform over the baptistry.

Or are you are happier outdoors

  • Take up the path block paving for reuse,

  • Scraping of the flaking external paint

  • Tackling brambles and ivy outside (weather permitting).

Maybe you make a mean cup of tea, are happy to serve refreshments or could provide cake!

Or you could book a tip run or two in the afternoon from 2pm onwards to help us get rid of some of the non-biodegradable rubbish produced.

We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to capture photos of the day as a record of local people working together with a common goal.
